UPDATE: Trial for the Murder of MTSU Basketball Standout Tina Stewart

May 09, 2012 at 06:08 am by bryan

The trial involving the death of an MTSU women’s basketball standout begins today in Murfreesboro. 19-Year old Shanterrica Madden, a former freshman from MTSU, allegedly stabbed her roommate to death in March of last year. After the stabbing, the boyfriend of Tina Stewart was the first to come to her aid. He dialed 9-1-1 and waited with her until paramedics arrived at the scene.

The stabbing allegedly occurred after Madden and Stewart got into a verbal confrontation over Madden allowing a friend to smoke marijuana in their off campus apartment. Madden is charged with first degree murder. Police detective Michael Taylor believes the murder was premeditated.

Stewart’s family from Memphis have since filed a $20-million lawsuit against Raiders Crossing Apartments. The family believes more should have been done in the way of relieving tensions between the two roommates. Apparently, the two did not know each other prior to being placed in the same apartment together. In a twist, Madden has also filed suit against the apartment complex stating the management failed to provide the two roommates with different living arraignments because the two did not get along.
