Fatal Accident on Sulpher Springs Road in Murfreesboro

The Murfreesboro Police Department Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) is investigating a two vehicle crash that occurred on May 7, 2012 at 11:28 a.m. at the intersection of Sulphur Springs Road and Clays Mill Drive.

After a preliminary investigation, investigators believe a 2006 International truck operated by Mark Harrell (age 29, Evelyn Court, Portland, TN) was traveling West on Clays Mill Drive and stopped at the intersection at Sulphur Springs Road. A 1990 Dodge Dakota truck operated by James Gannon (age 91, 4197 Sulphur Springs Road, Murfreesboro, TN) was traveling North on Sulphur Springs Road approaching the intersection of Clays Mill Drive. The International truck entered the intersection and failed to yield to the Dodge Dakota, causing a collision in the intersection.
 
The driver of the Dodge, Mr. James Gannon, was transported to MTMC and transferred to Vanderbilt Hospital where he later died from his injuries. A passenger in the Dodge, Mrs. Nannie Gannon (age 88, 4197 Sulphur Springs Road, Murfreesboro, TN), was taken to Middle Tennessee Medical Center where she remains with serious injuries. Mr. Harrell did not suffer any injuries in the crash.
 
The FACT team is investigating this crash and no charges have been filed at this point in the investigation. This is the first fatality on Murfreesboro roads in 2012.
