Road Challenges In The "Boro Through May 26th!

Spring is in the air, and so are numerous road construction projects. While polen in the air creates concerns, so do crews that slow motorists. City Traffic Engineer Ram Balachandran warns drivers of potential trouble thoroughfares in the 'Boro from now through May 26th. 

City Construction Projects

Maney Avenue Street Improvement Project (between SE Broad Street and College Street)

Expected Road Closures: Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4:00 PM: Road construction work continues along Maney Avenue between E Main Street and E College Street. This section of the roadway will be partially closed. There will be utility construction work on E Main Street at Maney Avenue between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm. Traffic on E Main Street will be reduced to one lane through this intersection. Access drives to the local residents and businesses will be kept open at all times. Motorists are advised to use Highland Ave and Academy Street travelling north/south and State Street and Main Street travelling east/west. Work continues, minor traffic interruptions.

Veterans Pkwy (New section between Barfield Road/Kimbro Road and Barfield Crescent Road)

Expected Lane Closures: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM: The traffic on Barfield Crescent Road has been shifted to the south side near Lone Oak Drive. Appropriate lane shift signs and pavements markings are in-place. Contractor has started road work on the north side. Barfield Church Road between Barfield Crescent Road and Barfield Road will be closed to through traffic. Access to local residents on Barfield Church Road will be kept open at all times. The construction of the bridge over Stones River continues. Work continues, minor traffic interruptions.

MTSU Phase 3 Project (Intersection of Greenland Drive at Wiles Ct)

Expected Lane Closures: Tuesday through Thursday, 9 AM to 6:00 AM: Greenland Drive will be reduced to two lanes at Scottland Drive. Stamped asphalt crosswalks will be installed at the intersection. There will be lane shifts and traffic interruptions. On Thursday, Scottland Drive will be closed at Greenland Drive. Traffic to and from Scottland Drive will be detoured onto Whitehall Rd and Glasgow Drive. Appropriate traffic controls and detours signs will be in place.

Lytle Street Sewer Construction Project (Lytle Street between Church Street and Maple Street)

Expected Lane Closures: Monday - Friday: 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM: The contractor for the Water and Sewer Department will be laying sanitary sewer pipe on Lytle Street between Church Street and Maple Street. Lytle Street will be reduced to one lane with flagging operation between Church Street and Maple Street. Motorists are advised to use Burton Street and College Street. Northbound and Southbound traffic on Church Street and Maple Street will not be affected. Driveway access to local businesses will be kept open at all times. Work continues, minor traffic interruptions.
TDOT Intersection Improvement Project (Medical Center Pkwy between I-24 EB Off-Ramp and Asbury Lane)
Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM: The contractor for TDOT will be making on-ramp improvements and striping modifications on Medical Center Pkwy between I-24 EB Ramp and Asbury Lane. There will be alternate lane closures and traffic interruptions. One lane will remain open in each direction at all times.
TDOT Re-Paving Project (NW Broad Street between Thompson Lane and Mercury Blvd)
Expected Lane Closures: Monday - Thursday, 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM: The contractor for TDOT will be installing concrete ramps and sidewalks on Broad Street between Mercury Blvd and Thompson Lane. Pavement marking crews will be re-striping NW Broad Street. There will be lane closures and traffic interruptions. All work will be done at night.


Atmos Energy Bare Main Replacement Project

1) Burton Street between College Street and Maple Street

Expected NO Lane Closures: Monday - Friday, 8 AM to 4:00 PM: The contractor for Atmos Energy will be replacing gas lines along the south side of Burton Street between College Street and Maple Street. Work will begin near College Street and will proceed in an easterly direction along the south side of Burton Street. There will be incidental and minor traffic interruptions on Burton Street. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

2) St Clair Street between Memorial Blvd and Walnut Street

Expected Lane Closures: Monday - Friday, 8 AM to 3:00 PM: The contractor for Atmos Energy will be replacing gas lines along St Clair Street between Memorial Blvd and Walnut Street. There will be partial lane closures and minor traffic interruptions on St Clair Street. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

3) Sevier Street between Spring Street and Academy Street

Expected Lane Closures: Monday - Friday, 8 AM to 3:00 PM: The contractor for Atmos Energy will be replacing gas lines along the north side of Sevier Street between Spring Street and Academy Street. Work will begin at the corner Spring Street and will proceed in an easterly direction along the north side of Sevier Street. There will be partial lane closures and minor traffic interruptions on Sevier Street and Spring Street. Contractor will maintain two lane of traffic. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.
Murfreesboro Sewer Rehabilitation Project (Greenland Drive at Crossway Drive, E Lytle between Cherry Lane and N Bilbro)
Expected Lane Closures: Monday - Tuesday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM: The contractor for Murfreesboro Water and Sewer Department will be doing sewer rehabilitation work on and along these streets. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flagman directing traffic. There will be lane closures and traffic interruptions. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.
Dill Lane at Mercury Blvd

Expected Lane Closures: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM: Contractor for a private development will be doing road widening and new entrance driveway work on Dill Lane at Mercury Blvd. There will be partial lane closures and traffic interruptions on Dill Lane. Proper traffic controls will be in place.
