Scouts needed 10AM Saturday at Stones River Battlefield

May 24, 2012 at 09:32 am by Bryan Barrett

The Memorial Day weekend offers many opportunities to show area youth how to be more patriotic Americans. One is for Boy and Girl Scouts to place 7,000 flags on the gravesites at the Stones River National Battlefield Cemetery. Scout leaders are asked to contact Jim Lewis at the battlefield and let him know that your scouts will help at 10:00 o'clock Saturday morning. The contact phone number is 615-893-9501.

Lewis told WGNS News that the scouts need to be there around 9:30 this Saturday morning. Parking is available at the visitor's center.

In addition to the flags at the cemetery, the Stones River National Battlefield is having its annual Memorial Day program at 1:30 Sunday afternoon (5/27/2012) at the rostrum that's in the drive around at the cemetery. Handicap parking is available in the maintenance area, and other parking on Sunday is at the visitor's center.

Scouts are asked to return at 1:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon (5/29/2012) to remove the 7,000 flags.
