Memorial Day "Healing Field" Next To Avenue of Murfreesboro

May 25, 2012 at 10:11 am by Bryan Barrett

The Murfreesboro Noon Exchange Club's Memorial Day weekend event is truly a Healing Field. Over a thousand large flags show strength and serenity.

That was Exchangite Don Wright, Past National Exchange President and State Senator Bill Ketron, along with State Representative Mike Sparks and Senator Jim Tracy.

The fourth annual "Flags of Remembrance...Healing Field" is a free service of the Noon Exchange Club starting at 11:00 o'clock Saturday morning (5/26/12) and continuing through Monday night, Memorial Day, at 7:00.

Wright noted, "You can purchase a flag and place it on the field in remembrance of someone special in your life." There is a $30 fee for the flag, and you can take it home with you when the Healing Field closes Monday night.

Ketron commented that the names of all veterans from Tennessee who have made the supreme sacrifice will be read in a special closing ceremony on Monday evening. That will be followed with TAPS.

Another great display of freedom is the giant Murfreesboro fire truck with its aerial ladder extended with Old Glory hanging below it. Representative Sparks said, "9-11 changed America, and firefighters are definitely a part of the Healing Field".

"So are police officers, paramedics and others who protect us and lay their lives on the line daily", according to Wright. In fact, flags are purchased by friends and family members and placed in their Healing Field to honor those who are living as well as deceased.
