New Codes Director in La Vergne

For the last decade, Randolph Salyers has observed La Vergne and noted areas in codes enforcement that needed improvement. Now, he is getting his chance to make positive changes as the city’s new codes director.

“I want to look closely at the building permitting process to ensure that economic development can prosper,” said Salyers. “Economic development is the meat of commerce, so we need to make the process simple for builders and contractors to come to La Vergne to do business.”

Salyers has received 14 certifications from the International Codes Council, including: building inspector, building plans examiner, certified building code official, certified housing code official, certified mechanical code official, certified plumbing code official, fire inspector I, mechanical inspector, mechanical plans examiner, plumbing inspector, plumbing plans examiner, property maintenance and housing inspector, residential combination inspector, and zoning inspector.

Along with his formal training, Salyers brings 16 years of experience from the town of Smyrna. Most recently he has served as Building and Fire Inspector and Codes Enforcement Officer. Salyers wide range of duties included employee supervision, fire safety, inspection of buildings including wiring, plumbing, electrical circuits, sewers, and more. He has also been responsible for municipal codes that include evaluating premises for cleanliness with a special eye toward proper garbage disposal and lack of vermin infestation. Additionally, he has examined elevators, escalators, and amusement rides to ensure safety and proper functioning.

“We are very fortunate to have Mr. Salyers as part of La Vergne’s management team,” said Mayor Senna Mosley. “His professional skills and experience will see to both the safety of our existing structures and ensure that future construction is built properly. In addition, his specialty areas are fundamental as we keep moving La Vergne forward in a direction that allows for positive growth and development, for safety of residents at fun events, and for having a can-do ethic that will attract retail businesses to this great city.”
