We're on the doorsteps of 2012's International FolkFest. For newcomers, one of those "must attend" events in the 'Boro will occur June tenth through the seventeenth.

The Cripple Creek Cloggers were started by local educator Steve Cates in 1967 as a 4-H project. From those early days at the old Kittrell School, the Cripple Creek Cloggers have shared Appalachian folk dancing locally and around the world. The FolkFest is the result of that.

Cates said, "Things seem to be in good shape for our 2012 International Folkfest!"

This year Murfreesboro's FolkFest welcomes troupes from Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, and Puerto Rico,

Public acitivities this year include an Ecumenical Service at 7:00 Wednesday evening, June 13th, at Central Christian Church on East Main Street. On Thursday night a 7:00 o'clock performance will be at the Manchester Art Center. Admission there is $10. And Friday night, FolkFest will be on stage at the Patterson Community Center here in Murfreesboro. That facility is at 521 Mercury Boulevard. Doors open at 6:30 and there is a $5 admission fee. And from 8:30 Saturday morning, June 16th, until 1:00 that afternoon--there will be free public performances on the east side of the Historic Rutherford County Courthouse.

In addition to this month's FolkFest here in Murfreesboro, the Cripple Creek Cloggers will head Latvia in July. And next year, the Austria's who will be in the 'Boro in a few days--will host our troupe next year.
