12,000 yellow rubber ducks will float down the Stones River at 4:23 p.m. Saturday, June 23 at the Sportsman’s Club at 1231 Medical Center Parkway in Murfreesboro . Spectators line up on the bridge and watched the ducks glide down the river.

People buy ducks at $5 apiece for a chance to win the grand prize of $5,000 and 15 other prizes valued at more than $20,000. All proceeds go to the nonprofit Child Advocacy Center of Rutherford and Cannon counties, who has helped 7,500 sexually abused and endangered children in the past 12 years.

The free Family Fun Fest precedes the race at 2 p.m., including games for kids and a Wing off to crown the King of the (chicken) Wings at 3:30 p.m.

Also, volunteers will wash 12,000 ducks and tag the ducks with identification numbers during a Duck Tagging Party at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 23 at the Child Advocacy Center at 1040 Samsonite Blvd. (across from the driver’s license center in the old fire station).

We hope you can cover one or both of the events.
