LaVergne Police prepared for the unknown early Friday morning as their SWAT team, members of the National Guard Counter Drug Task Force and sheriff's deputies surrounded the home at 8732 Rocky Fork-Almaville Road.

It was 7:00 o'clock when the lead officer pounded on the door, announcing "police--come out". 54-year old Roy A. Smith was arrested and charged with manufacturing, delivering and selling schedule two narcotics, schedule three narcotics, and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of selling or distributing narcotics. He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. That translates into three felony charges and one misdemeanor.

This was not Smith's first run-in with La Vergne lawmen. In 2009, he was charged with manufacturing, delivering or selling schedule three narcotics.

The swift Friday morning operation ended with the SWAT team confiscating a GMC pickup truck, cash, 730 Hydrocodone pills, and Oxycodone pills.

La Vergne Police Chief Mike Walker said, “We will do everything in our power to keep drugs off our streets. I hope this sends a message to anyone involved in criminal activity that we will not stand by and allow you to do this in La Vergne. You will be arrested and charged to the fullest extent of the law.”

Roy A. Smith was booked at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. His bond was set at $13,000 with a court date of August 29th.
