Murfreesboro is now enjoying en influx of visitors with summer sporting events mixed with vacationers. City Traffic Engineer Ram Balachandran tells where traffic problems might pop-up at area construction sites today through June 30th.

City Construction Projects

Maney Avenue Street Improvement Project (between SE Broad Street and College Street) 

Expected Road Closures: Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4:00 PM: Striping and incidental construction work continues along Maney Avenue betweenBroad Street and E College Street. There will be minor traffic interruptions and partiallane closures during this work.Access drives to the local residents and businesses will be kept open at all times.Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Veterans Pkwy (New section between Barfield Road/Kimbro Road and Barfield Crescent Road)

Expected Lane Closures: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM: The traffic on Barfield Crescent Road has been shifted to the south side near Lone Oak Drive. Appropriate lane shiftsigns and pavements markings are in-place. Contractor has started road work on the north side. Barfield Church Road between Barfield Crescent Road and Barfield Road will be closed to through traffic. Access to local residents on Barfield Church Road will be kept open at all times. The construction of the bridge over Stones River continues.Work continues, minor traffic interruptions.

TDOT Intersection Improvement Project (Medical Center Pkwy between I-24 EB Off-Ramp and Asbury Lane)

Expected LaneClosures: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM: The contractor for TDOT will be making on-ramp improvements and striping modifications on Medical Center Pkwy between I-24 EB Ramp and Asbury Lane. There will be alternate lane closures and traffic interruptions. One lane will remain open in each direction at all times.

Atmos Energy Bare Main Replacement Project 

1) Burton Street between College Street and Maple Street:  Expected Lane Closures: Monday - Friday, 8 AM to 4:00 PM: The contractor for Atmos Energy will be replacing gas lines along the south side of Burton Street between College Street and Maple Street. Work will begin near College Street and will proceed in an easterly direction along the south side of Burton Street. Monday through Wednesday, Burton Street will be reduced to one lane with flagman directing traffic. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

2) Kings Hwy between Bridge Avenue and Old Salem Road:  Expected Lane Closures: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM: The contractor for Atmos Energy will be replacing gas lines along Kings Hwy between Bridge Ave and Old Salem. Work will begin near Bridge Ave and will proceed in a southerly direction along the east side of Kings Hwy. There will be lane closures on the west side of Kings Highway between Bridge Ave and Old Salem Rd. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

West Main Street Sewer Extension Project (West Main Street between Bridge Ave and Broad Street)

Expected Lane Closures: Monday - Friday: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM: The contractor for the Water and Sewer Department will be laying sanitary sewer pipe crossing West Main Street (south to north) between Bridge Ave and Broad Street. There will be partial lane closures and traffic interruptions on West Main Street. Driveway access to local businesses will be kept open at all times. Appropriate traffic controlswill be in place.

Murfreesboro Sewer Rehabilitation Project (Racquet Club Drive near the Cul De Sac and E Main St between Wamack Lane and N Baird Lane )

Expected LaneClosures: Tuesday - Wednesday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM: The contractor for Murfreesboro Water and Sewer Department will be doing sewer rehabilitation/lining work on and along these streets. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flagman directing traffic. There will be lane closures and traffic interruptions. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Lytle Street Water Line Construction Project (Lytle Street between Maple Street and Spring Street)

Expected Lane Closures: Monday - Friday: 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM: The contractor for the Water and Sewer Department will be laying water lines on Lytle Street between Maple Street and Spring Street. Lytle Street will be closed between Church Street and Maple Street. Motorists are advised to use Burton Street and College Street. Northbound and Southbound traffic on Maple Street, Church Street and Spring Street will not be affected. Driveway access to local businesses will be kept open at all times.

Underground Tank Removal (Broad Street at Brinkley Ave)

Expected NO Lane Closures: Tuesday - Friday: 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM: The contractor for the property owner at the northeast corner of Broad Street and Brinkley Ave will be removing three underground tanks on private property near the intersection. There will be no lane closures or traffic interruptions. Driveway access to local businesses will be kept open at all times.

Annual City Street Paving Project

Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM: Citymilling, paving, striping and casting crews will be working on the following streets and subdivisions: Expect lane shifts and traffic interruptions during these operations.
