Country music star and songwriter Darryl Worley will host hit songwriters Walt Aldridge, Brett Jones and Jim “Moose” Brown in Murfreesboro on Tuesday, July 10, for the Darryl Worley and Friends Songwriters’ Event. Held at Bumpus Harley-Davidson at 2250 N.W. Broad St., the show will begin at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. The performance will benefit the Darryl Worley Foundation, which supports a variety of organizations, including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center and the Darryl Worley Cancer Treatment Center.
Through six albums and 20 hit singles, Worley has produced one of the most impressive, wide-ranging catalogs in contemporary music. His recently released single, “You Still Got It,” is on the Billboard 100 Chart for Country Music. In addition to his success as a musician, Worley is known for his patriotism, support of U.S. troops and commitment to making a difference. When asked about this event, Worley said, “This is a night where we have a rare opportunity hear the songwriters perform their hits and tell the stories behind them. All of us in the room get to feel like we're just sitting around with friends, laughing and enjoying some music. So many people give to make this evening a great one that’s all about helping others — from the songwriters to the Bumpus family to the auction donors to the guests.”
Aldridge, named one of the Top 10 Country Songwriters will join Worley at Bumpus-Harley-Davidson. He has performed in the Nashville area for more than 30 years and has written more than 50 Top 40 songs. His song “No Getting Over Me” was named one of ASCAP’s most performed country songs, and “Holding Her and Loving You” was named Song of the Year by the Nashville Songwriters’ Association International. He has worked with artists including Lou Reed, Peter Cetera, Conway Twitty and Reba McEntire.
Jones will also be joining the Murfreesboro lineup. His first hit was his 1993 Top 20 song for the Confederate Railroad “When and Where.” Since then he has had more than 100 major recordings and 14 Top 10 records, including seven No. 1 songs. His most recent hits have been Billy Currington’s “That’s How Country Boys Roll,” Jason Aldean’s 2010 chart topper, “Crazytown,” and Justin Moore’s No. 1 single, “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away.” Jones recently achieved the rare status of having No. 1 records in each of the past three decades.
Always a favorite at the songwriter performances, Brown is a Grammy award winner whose songs have been recorded by Alan Jackson, Jimmy Buffett, McBride, James Otto, Jamey Johnson, Worley, Terri Clark and Julie Roberts. Brown has played piano/keyboard on albums for Brad Paisley, Phil Vassar, Josh Turner, Trace Adkins, Worley, Darius Rucker, Blake Shelton and Hank Williams, Jr. He also co-wrote the eight-week No. 1 “It's Five O'clock Somewhere” by Jackson and Buffett, as well as the Top 10 hit for Worley “If Something Should Happen.”
Guests at the event will have an opportunity to purchase several valuable items at auction. For more information, contact Bumpus Harley-Davidson of Murfreesboro at 615-849-8025. A recent songwriters' event held in Collierville raised more than $33,400 for the Darryl Worley Foundation.
