The dream of the late Pharmacist Jessie Messick continues all this weekend in front of more than 40-thousand spectators at Cannonsburgh. John Balch, now Chairman of the Board for Uncle Dave Macon Days, and organization President Gloria Christy reminisce about those early days. In fact, John set the sound system up for the first event, and then came back to play the guitar and accompany a friend. The second year, he brought his banjo--and the story unwinds from there . . .
Christy said Saturday morning is a plus for this year's event. Re-enactors will recreate Nathan Bedford Forrest's raid on the courthouse that took place July 13, 1862. They will join Uncle Dave's "Motorless Parade" which starts at 10:00 o'clock in front of Central Magnet School, goes down East Main--and then the entourage marches to Cannonsburgh.
