Shark conservationist and photographer Steven Anderson will be speaking at the La Vergne Public Library on Saturday, July 28 at 2:00 p.m.  During the free program,Andersonwill provide first-hand knowledge about the efforts being made to conserve shark populations and the dangers facing sharks today.

The public fascination with sharks began when the movie Jaws scared a nation of teenagers and adults alike.  A decade later, the Discovery Channel began airing the television series “Shark Week,” developed to help the average person have a greater respect for sharks. Since then, interest in sharks has grown every year which is why the La Vergne Public Library will feature Anderson, who is renowned for his brilliant shark photography.

“Only two weeks from the beginning of the Discovery Channel program, Shark Week, the Library is excited to be hosting Steven as a guest speaker,” saidEmily Kilduff, adult programs coordinator. “Steven's experiences as a diver and photographer provide great insight to marine life from all around the world. During his program on Saturday he'll share some of these experiences, focusing on why conservation of marine life, and especially sharks, is so important.”
