A decisive victory for Greg Brooks, who will take over as the new Road superintendent for retiring Mike Williams...

A close race for School Board Zone 3, with only 68 votes determining the winner. Helen Blankenship is the newest school board member, edging Tim Holden. Blankenship received 34-percent of the vote to Holden's 32-percent. (Above Left: Helen R. Blankenship is a part of WGNS' 65th year of election returns in this broadcast from the Election Commission)

In fact, Blankenship stated she was motivated to run not only by a desire to serve the community, but frankly, because she wanted a job:

Incumbent School Board Zone 2 member Grant Kelley was defeated by challenger Coy Young by a total of 319 votes. Young received 56-percent of the vote to Kelley's 44-percent. Terry Hodge in School Board Zone 5 was unopposed and will remain on the school board.

Randal "Bubba" Jones, Michael Anderson and Paul Johnson were all unopposed for road board.

Nancy Rainier and Collier Smith were voted in to fill two seats on the Murfreesboro City School Board, which they were appointed to by the City Council. Because of the latest census numbers, the city is no longer able to appoint members to fill out the remaining time for a vacant school board seat. They can now only fill the position until the next scheduled election.
