For at least the fourth year, Tennessee radio and television broadcasters have converged on The Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center for their annual convention. Management, engineering and broadcast sales professionals are learning more about the rapidly changing technology that keeps communities informed.

The bulk of Tuesday's meetings included the TAB board of directors receiving a legislative update and discussion of ways to better serve residents who listen to and watch Tennessee media.

Wednesday (8/8/2012) will include break-out sessions dealing with a discussion on the responsibilities of a chief operator, a term defining the person at each radio and television station who is responsible for making certain public files, records and other procedures are in place to make certain the facility meets all of the requirements of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

In fact, Doug Miller from the FCC's Enforcement Bureau is doing a question and answer event to help broadcasters to better serve their communities while meeting federal regulations.

The TAB Awards Luncheon promises to be filled with surprises as the group's highest award is presented. Each year, the radio and television broadcasters single-out one person who they feel has best served the industry and their community. This decision is based on the long-term accomplishments of the recipient. Some call this the "broadcaster of the year", but the award's official name is Distinghished Service Award. The keynote speaker is Tennessee Lottery President and CEO Rebecca Paul Hargrove.

Wednesday afternoon will focus on an in-depth session about the new Emergency Alert System.
