The Islamic Center of Murfreesboro has passed all requirements and was given a temporary certificate of occupancy on Thursday by the Rutherford County Codes Department. The Veals Road and Bradyville Pike complex will be the site of prayers by members during Friday's Holy Day events. Ramadan continue through Sunday, August 19th.
The 52,000 square foot Islamic Center of Murfreesboro includes a school and gym. The group had been meeting in Murfreesboro for several decades, but when the land was purchased for approximately $1-million and the mosque took another $2-million, there has been on-going battles in court and at the construction site.
The opening comes at a time when violence has erupted across the nation. A mosque in Joplin, Missouri was burned to the ground on Monday. while six were killed the day before in a shooting at a Sikh temple near Milwaukee.
