A forward thinking night of local government, Thursday, August 16th. First up, the Rutherford County Commission, who approved resolutions to exempt the Cultural Arts Center from property taxes, eliminate the issuance of wheel tax decals, as was under discussion some time ago, and to commend the county and the Town of Smyrna on cracking down on the sale of synthetic drugs, and to encourage Murfreesboro and LaVergne to take a similar, strong stand. A contract was also struck with Grundy County to house surplus juvenile offenders. Looking at the Murfreesboro City Council, City Manager Rob Lyons outlined the proposed 2012-2016 Capital Improvement Plan, which laid out many upcoming projects for the city, 92 in all, pending approval to borrow the money to fund them.
