The issue of the mosque being built on Veals Road in Murfreesboro was heard in a federal courtroom in Nashville on Wednesday. A judge overseeing the case says he will allow for opponents of the mosque to weigh in on religious freedom case.
You may recall three months ago, Chancellor Robert Corlew ruled that the county could not issue a certificate of occupancy to the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro because the county failed to give proper public notice about construction plans for the mosque. A federal judge then overruled that decision and forced the county to work with the mosque in obtaining a certificate of occupancy.
Opponents can now have a say on whether the Chancery Court in Rutherford County violated the federal religious land use and institutionalized persons act.
