200 Soccer Teams This Weekend At Siegel Complex

Close to 200 soccer teams will arrive in Murfreesboro this weekend for the inaugural Tennessee Cup Soccer Tournament. The tournament will take place from Aug. 31 through Sept. 3, 2012 and will be held at the Richard Siegel Soccer Complex located at 515 Cherry Lane in Murfreesboro.

“We are thrilled to host such an exciting event in Murfreesboro,” said Scott Spencer, Tennessee Cup tournament director and Premier Soccer Services president. “Not only do we have excellent, diverse competition on incredible fields at the Siegel Soccer Complex; but the welcome and support from the city has been fantastic. The Rutherford County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce have been integral in creating this event while the Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation will be a key part in the success of the operation of the tournament.”

The tournament includes 188 boys and girls soccer teams from 12 states, including one boys team from Guadalajara, Mexico, that plays in the 3rd division of pro soccer in Mexico, will compete. There will be 376 matches over the course of four days.

“The Tennessee Cup is a huge tournament and we are delighted to once again showcase the Siegel Soccer Complex,” said Mona Herring, vice president of the Rutherford County Convention and Visitors Bureau. “The tournament is expected to provide a large economic impact to the Rutherford County area, and we are excited to show these visitors everything we have to offer in Rutherford County. The exposure we get from these events is invaluable.”

Local restaurants, hotels, retail stores and others will benefit from the players, coaches, teams and tournament officials, who also bring along their families to this four-day tournament. Visitors to the Murfreesboro area have booked an estimated 2,500 room nights at area hotels.

Spencer added, “This will be the first time for several teams to visit Murfreesboro and we hope to create memorable experiences for all.”
