New unemployment claims decreased again this past week in Tennessee since the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

According to the TN Department of Labor, new unemployment claims filed between August 2nd and August 8th were recorded at 10,036. The previous week ending on August 1st came in at 11,690 New unemployment claims.

Looking back, the week ending on April 4th had the largest number of new unemployment claims which came in at over 116,000.

Rutherford County currently has 3.4% of their population unemployed (11,312 people out of 332,285) due to the Pandemic.

Meanwhile in Davidson County, they still have over 5% of their population listed as unemployed (38,347 residents out of 694,144).  

To date, over 781-thousand unemployment claims were filed in Tennessee between March 15th and August 1, 2020. Out of that number, only 34% (267,711) of the claims were approved and paid as bonified unemployment cases in the Volunteer State.
