Oakland Opens Season with Hendersonville; Other Friday Night Games

Aug 19, 2020 at 06:30 pm by WGNS

Oakland looks to build on last year's successful run to the Class 6A semifinals here in 2020. Having the opportunity to even play just a month ago seemed like a pipe dream.

Patriots head coach Kevin Creasy says being able to play week one - on time - is a welcome surprise:

Oakland has games with Kenwood and Germantown that won't be able to go on as scheduled due to COVID-19 restrictions in those areas. So right now, they're going into the season with only eight scheduled games.

The first challenge - Hendersonville - will be significant. Oakland shut out the Commandoes 59-0 last season. But the young squad rebounded to have a season that saw them advance to the second round of the playoffs.

Creasy fully expects a different Hendersonville team this time around:

Be sure to tune in Friday night to hear the broadcast from Ray Hughes Stadium. Pregame coverage begins at 6pm with Murphy's Matchups. It's followed by the Primetime Sports Countdown to Kickoff, sponsored by the Law Offices of John Day at 6:30. Kickoff is set for 7pm.

And remember, after the game this season, it's the TriStar Friday Night Live Scoreboard Show until 11PM each game night.
