(MURFREESBORO) A Rutherford County Sheriff's deputy was the Knight In Shining Armour for a father and son

Cars rushing by threatened the lives of motorists Daniel Greer and James Halloan when they were trying to re-attach a dislodged tire from a trailer they were hauling late Saturday (9/26/2020) on Interstate 840.

Halloan’s son waited inside the vehicle, but no one stopped to help until Sheriff’s Deputy John Wauchek arrived.

“Deputy Wauchek saved mine and my friend’s life tonight when he was almost hit multiple times when cars wouldn’t slow down nor move over,” Greer said. “His cruiser was almost hit by a driver because they wouldn’t take time to be safe and drive responsibly.”

Drivers failed to move over.

“They were blowing by at 70 mph and didn’t care,” Greer said.

Wauchek directed traffic while the men retrieved the tire and re-attached it to the trailer.

“People were coming by and didn’t really care,” Greer said of the motorists speeding by them. “We almost got hit. One woman showed no care at all.”

Wauchek didn’t have to stop and help.

“I really appreciate him stopping,” Greer said, adding, “All three of us could have been killed. It’s just the thought of being in the middle of the interstate. I thank the officer again for what he did.”
