Rutherford County Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Honored by The Exchange Club of Murfreesboro

Ty Downing, Detective, Rutherford County Sheriff Department, Criminal Division, was honored as the recipient of The Exchange Club of Murfreesboro Outstanding Rutherford County Law Enforcement Officer of the Year on October 28, 2020.

Downing is a seasoned investigator who has solved several murder cases. He  joined the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office in 1997 and was promoted as a detective six years later. He served as a supervisor in the Patrol Division and returned to the Criminal Investigations Division. Downing is also assigned as the lead investigator for unsolved murders.

Community service is the lifeline of The Exchange Club. The Program of Service that most allows The Exchange Club of Murfreesboro to identify leaders in our community who accept the challenge of excellence in their position of a Law Enforcement Officer.

Crime Prevention has been a major avenue of Exchange Club service since the 1940s. Since its inception, Exchange Club’s Crime Prevention Program has been endorsed by nearly every U.S. President, and many of the nation’s leading Law Enforcement Officials. Exchange Clubs kick off their anticrime campaigns during October which is National Crime Prevention Month.
