"Golden Bowl" winner was Richard and Stephanie Luneack with Hammer Down

(MURFREESBORO) This past Saturday was the thirteenth year that Habitat for Humanity has had COOKIN' TO BUILD on the Murfreesboro Square. Despite social distancing and everyone wearing a mask, the event was a success.

Habitat is founded on caring for others, and it is interwoven into everything they do--from preparing people for home ownership, to helping the public get unbelievable bargains at the ReStore, and of course making certain events like COOKIN' TO BUILD are enjoyed by those who attend.

When WGNS asked Megan Hutchings, the event coordinator, to tell us about the success of last Saturday's event, she said, "The 2020 COOKIN’ TO BUILD to benefit Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity was a great success. The weather was beautiful, the food delicious, and the community support incredible."

She commented, "As always, the painted bowls were a big hit. I think choosing a bowl is just as hard as voting for your favorite dish."

Golden Bowl Winner

This year the 2020 Golden Bowl Award Winner went to Richard and Stephanie Luneack in the Hammer Down for Habitat booth. They made a Zuppa Toscana and knocked it out of the park.

The Rest of the Story

Then Hutching sighed and with a smile noted, “Honestly, the event was good for my soul. This year, more than anything, I wanted those attending COOKIN’ TO BUILD to have fun, stay safe, and be kind. I walked away Saturday afternoon feeling as though we accomplished just that. I do want to take a moment to thank all the sponsors, volunteers, cooking teams, bowl painters, and staff that pulled together to help make the event what it was. Also, I really appreciate our Executive Director Terri Shultz who always goes above and beyond.”.

Musical entertainment was provided by Jodal Bravo and truly was the perfect background music for the event.

Save The Date

Megan did a Columbo turnaround while walking out the door, “Oh—by the way, save the date for the 2021 COOKIN’ TO BUILD; Saturday, November 6th!”
