On the WGNS Action Line radio broadcast, a listener asked Mayor Shane McFarland about the massive 78-acre Clari Park.  He asked why City Council voted the massive multi-use project down . . .

In 2017, after a public hearing where residents whose homes border the development, including the Stones River Battlefield—voiced concerns about traffic, flooding, noise and the loss of the rural feeling for the historic area if a mixed-use project that included 600 homes, retail and a possible hotel behind McDonald’s on Medical Center Parkway was approved.

The mayor explained that in 2017 the Murfreesboro Planning Commission approved the concept with a landscaped buffer and berm along Wilkinson Pike to address those public’s concerns.

McFarland noted that this was not included in the plans presented to Council on October 22, 2020 . . .

Clari Park would have covered the entire frontage across Medical Center Parkway across from The Avenue of Murfreesboro starting at Redstone Federal Credit Union and continuing until Rooms To Go. Along Wilkinson Pike, the land starts near Robert Rose Drive and continues until Gresham Park Drive. That would be across from the Stones River National Battlefield as well as a considerable amount of residential dwellings.

As reported earlier on WGNS, the Council denied (10/22/2020) the Clari Park project with a vote of 4 against, 2 for and 1 abstain.
