Murfreesboro Police Officers got a small surprise this week.

Both students and staff of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic School stopped by the police headquarters on North Highland Avenue and delivered over 300 blessing bags to officers. The bags came complete with snacks and St. Michael Holy cards.

The Holy cards have a prayer on them to St. Michael. The prayer asks for protection in battle against wickedness and the snares of the devil.

Students also brought dog treat bags for the K9 unit.

Saint Rose of Lima Catholic School first opened in 1953 with four classrooms that had two grades to each room. At that time there were 81 students and 44 of those children were from Sewart Air Force Base while the remaining 37 were from Murfreesboro.

By 1969, the school grew to nine classrooms with 263 students. But, Sewart Air Force Base in Smyrna closed down that very same year. At the end of the following school year, enrollment had dropped to 83 students as more than half of the children who attended the school were from Sewart.

Despite the hardships, the school continued and the 1990's proved to be positive with unprecedented growth. Today, the school has Kindergarten through junior high grades.
