Subject in Murfreesboro Child Rape Case Could Receive Prison Sentence of 288-Years

A Jackson, Tennessee man who was already listed as being a sex offender for a crime that took place in 1999 is now looking at spending the remainder of his life behind bars.  

59-Year old Benjamin Hartshaw raped a 12-year old girl in Murfreesboro two years ago. The rape reportedly happened while Hartshaw was in town celebrating his birthday.  Hartshaw is looking at prison sentence this week that could leave him behind bars for the remainder of his life.

Murfreesboro Police Department Special Victims Unit Detective Michael Yates stated, “In my experience of working child sexual abuse cases, the vast majority of times the perpetrator is someone close, someone, that is trusted.”  Detective Yates went on to say,  “Child Predators often maneuver themselves into these positions of trust, and sadly, that was the situation in this particular case.”
