Feb 14, 2021 at 08:43 am by WGNS

Light freezing rain and drizzle have thinly coated surfaces here in Rutherford County creating hazardous travel conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until 6pm. Authorities report dangerous conditions on roadways. Be especially careful on sidewalks, outside steps and parking lots.

This is ahead of a much more significant weather system expected to move in this evening through Tuesday morning. Two-to-four inches of snow and sleet along with up to a quarter-inch of ice will be possible with that system.

On Sunday morning, the Rutherford County Sheriffs Office reported that black ice is causing treacherous roads, especially in the south end of the county. There are multiple crashes.

In La Vergne, Mayor Jason Cole said, "Please stay home if you don’t need to get out. The street department is out salting roads but it’s still slick in a lot of areas and we are working multiple wrecks around the city."

At 10:09am, T-DOT reported a jack knife tractor trailer on I-24 Westbound in Rutherford County at mile marker 90.8. At 10:22am, a single vehicle crash was reported at mile marker 89.2 and at 8:32am, a single vehicle crash at mile marker 77.8.

Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue reports several roads throughout Murfreesboro have been reported to have slick spots per MFRD crews. Use extreme caution if you have to be out!
