(MURFREESBORO)  It's time to clean your closets for a great cause!  Haverty's in The Avenue of Murfreesboro has joined with Bob Lamb's Exit Realty to collect furniture, appliances, windows, doors, lighting, cabinets and more for the Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity.

Habitat's Executive Director Terri Shultz said, "Bring your donations to Haverty's on Saturday, May 15, from 10AM-1PM. That's next week, so you have some time to clean out the garage, attic or storeroom at the office."

She noted, "The donated goods go to the Habitat ReStore at 850 Mercury Boulevard. This store is open to the public and is packed with savings. All of the items are recycled and the proceeds help to build affordable housing."

In fact, Habitat is developing an entire subdivision out Greenland Drive that is called Legacy Pointe.

Legacy Pointe will eventually have 77 new homes for families who complete the Habitat program, which includes 30 weeks of Financial Literacy, Homeowner Education, along with 300-400 hours of sweat equity.

Habitat Homeowners earn 30-80 percent of the area's medium income, and often do not qualify for a traditional mortgage.

In fact, many low to moderate income families spend over 50 percent of their monthly income on rental housing. Through the Habitat program they will buy their home with a low-interest mortgage, acquire equity--and their monthly mortgages are often much less than their current rental housing.
