(SMYRNA, TN)  The town of Smyrna held a moving Memorial Day commemoration on Monday (5/31/2021) under the shadows of the Captain Jeff Kuss USMC Memorial in the Lee Victory Park. 

MTSU’s Lt. Gen. Keith M. Huber, who served the U.S. Army for approximately 40 years, was the keynote speaker at the Memorial Day tribute. He is the university’s senior advisor for veterans and leadership initiatives.

Huber’s 38 years of service in the U.S. Army included most recently command of the Combined Joint Interagency Task Force 435 in Afghanistan. He also served as a company commander, battalion operations officer, brigade and division operations officer, battalion commander and director of civil-military affairs with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell.

He earned the Combat Infantryman, Expert Infantryman, Master Parachutist, Combat Diver, Special Operations Diving Supervisor, Air Assault and Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification badges and was Special Forces and Ranger qualified.

There were Memorial Day tributes to veterans across Rutherford County. These heroes are the reasons we enjoy the many freedoms that are a part of life in the United States of America.
