"Tree Encounter" with City School Bus

Aug 14, 2021 at 05:48 am by WGNS

(MURFREESBORO)  A Murfreesboro City Schools bus loaded with 52 Salem Elementary students was involved in an encounter with a tree on the very narrow, tree-lined Mooreland Lane on Friday afternoon (8/13/2021). There was some damage to the bus, but neither the students nor bus driver suffered serious injuries.

City Schools Director of Communications Lisa Trail told NewsRadio WGNS, "A car was meeting him (bus driver) and he got over to share the road. That's just a very narrow road and the tree overhung the street."

The roof of a large Murfreesboro City School bus hit that overhanging tree trunk.

Trail explained that another Murfreesboro City schol bus was driven to the accident scene, where it picked-up the students and took them to the nearest city school, Overall Creek Elementary School at 429 Otter Trail, which is less than a mile away. Parents were notified and picked-up their children at Overall Creek.

Since city property and personnel were involved, the Tennessee Highway Patrol was called to complete the accident investigation.
