Senators White and Reeves announce $597,620 in Highway Safety Grants for Rutherford County

Local State Senators Dawn White and Shane Reeves today announced the award of eight Highway Safety Grants in Rutherford County.  The grants are awarded through the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) to promote public safety on Tennessee roads and curb drunk driving. 

“These grants should have an impact in making our roads safer and in reducing the number of alcohol-related crashes,” said Sen. White.  “We are very pleased these funds are available and congratulate the grant recipients for submitting successful applications which we were happy to support.”

“These awards are very important to our local law enforcement agencies,” added Sen. Reeves.  "They will be put to good use in keeping our roads safer.”

The Rutherford County awards include:

- $50,000 to the LaVergne Police Department for Police Traffic Services (Multiple Violations)
- $5,000 to the Eagleville Police Department for High Visibility Enforcement
- $124,782 to the Murfreesboro Police Department for Police Traffic Services (Multiple Violations)
- $125,000 to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office for Police Traffic Services (Multiple Violations)
- $15,000 to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office for Teen Driver Education
- $50,000 to the Smyrna Police Department for Police Traffic Services (Multiple Violations)
- $57,238 to the Prevention Coalition for Success for Alcohol and Impaired Driving Education; and
- $170,600 to the Tennessee District Attorney General for the 16th Judicial District (Rutherford and Cannon Counties) for DUI prosecution.

The combined total of the grants is $597,620.
