(MURFREESBORO) Fire Prevention Week wrapped-up Friday (10/8/2021) with the public attending a fire safety event at the Doug Young Public Safety Training Center on Bridge Avenue at the New Salem Highway.

The theme was “Learning the sounds of fire safety”.

The "chirps" of a smoke alarm give you a message:

  • A continuous set of 3 loud beeps means smoke or fire.  Get out, call 911, and stay out!
  • A single chirp every 30 to 60 seconds means the battery is low and must be replaced.
  • Chirping that continues after the battery has been replaced means the alarm is at the end of its life and the unit must be replaced.
  • All smoke alarms should be replaced after 10 years.
  • Make sure your smoke alarm meets the needs of all family members, including those with sensory or physical disabilities.

Chief Mark Foulks said, "Thanks to those who stopped by to tour our facility, talk about fire safety, visit with Sparky, and see some of our equipment."
