(NASHVILLE)  49th District State Rep. Mike Sparks (R-Smyrna) has been ranked as one of the most conservative members of the Tennessee General Assembly by the American Conservative Union.

During the 2021 legislative session, Sparks supported conservative positions 90 percent of the time, according to an analysis of roll call votes by the American Conservative Union. The rating was the third highest score given to any member of the Tennessee House or Senate.

State Representative Sparks said, “It’s an honor to be recognized as one of the top conservative voices in Tennessee. I promise to continue to be a voice for the people and stand strong for our U.S. Constitution and conservative values.”

Sparks is among six members of the Tennessee House of Representatives who will receive the Award for Conservative Excellence from the ACU for his support of conservative issues. The award will be presented during the Conservative Political Action Conference scheduled to be held Feb. 24-27 in Orlando, Fla.

As part of its analysis, the ACU looked at votes on legislation that addressed a variety of issues including bills that prohibit government from mandating COVID-19 vaccinations or imposing vaccine passports, strengthen Second Amendment protections by establishing “constitutional carry” in the state and ban critical race theory in schools.

The Smyrna representative is also a member of the Finance, Ways and Means Appropriations Subcommittee
