Verbatim: Two grounds workers at The Avenue in Murfreesboro went the extra mile to ensure an older gentleman could maintain his dignity as his wife shopped at one of the retail stores. The problem started when the man realized that the retail store lacked a public restroom. On a walker and unable to clearly see where he was going, he needed help to make it to the restroom in time and he couldn't find his wife to ask for assistance.

A shopper realized his panic and jumped in her truck to transport him to The Avenue's public restroom. Two maintenance workers saw the shoppers' struggle of getting the elderly man into the over sized truck and quickly lent a helping hand. Charles Miller and Valerie Britton, who work for The Avenue, worked to make sure the gentleman was securely in the truck before hopping in a golf cart to escort them to a restroom. Keep in mind there was not a parking space in site of any restroom and Christmas shoppers were running from store to store.

After the elderly man on the walker made it to the restroom, he worried he wouldn't be able to find his wife. That was when a third person, who happened to be shopping for gifts, saw the commotion and ran to their aid asking what he could do to help. The shopper went back to the store where the elderly gentleman's wife was hunting for gifts to inform her that her husband was in the restroom. The Avenue workers, Charles and Valerie, waited with the senior citizen until the third Good Samaritan found the gentleman's wife.

Who would ever think that something as simple as helping a handicap senior citizen make it to the restroom in time to maintain his dignity - could turn into a blessing? Charles, Valerie and a third Good Samaritan who asked that his name not be mentioned, went above and beyond and helped without expectation by serving someone in need of help.

Charles Miller and Valerie Britton will each receive a Toot's gift certificate for being an example to others by simply lending a helping hand. Thank you so much for being a good neighbor!
