(MURFREESBORO)  The moving Wreaths Across America tribute to veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice was held at noon this past Saturday (12/18/2021) at the Stones River National Cemetery.

Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, the organization has as its mission to Remember, Honor and Teach. That is carried out with coordinated ceremonies at National Park cemeteries in all 50 states, at sea, and abroad...1,200 different locations.

Coordinated by local volunteers, local groups worked to have wreaths donated to place on as many headstones of our fallen service members as possible. Over 2,000 wreaths were placed at Stones River National Cemetery.

All five branches of the U.S. Military and the U.S. Merchant Marine were represented by official wreaths at the Stones River National Battlefield cemetery. Gold Star Families, speakers from the U.S. military and National Parks Service, local and state officials and the general public took part in this moving program.

Heart warming stories and memories were shared as the wreaths were placed on the local tombstones while TAPS was being played.

The mission of Wreaths Across America is to honor and to teach about the sacrifice our veterans made for the freedom we share.
