The City of Murfreesboro and Middle Tennessee Electric continue to research the idea of a proposed land swap.

Amy Byers with Middle Tennessee Electric told WGNS NEWS...

The utility provider originally planned to use their previously purchased land on Veterans Parkway to build a new headquarters office on, but property owned by the City of Murfreesboro near the I-840 / Veterans Parkway interchange looks to be better suited for Middle Tennessee Electric.

Likewise, the land currently owned by the electric provider, which is further down Veterans Parkway past Shores Road, appears to be better suited for a future school and city park...

When Middle Tennessee Electric purchased Murfreesboro Electric in 2020, the Tennessee Valley Authority placed a ten year moratorium on building a new office. That said, if the land swap moves forward, the electric cooperative can't build a new headquarters until year 2030.
