Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department paramedics and Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived on the scene and began treating 57-year-old Luis Machiel of Murfreesboro, for his injuries. Machiel’s injuries were too severe and police confirmed he died on the scene.
The preliminary investigation shows Machiel was walking in the left turn lane on South Church Street when he was hit. A Ford F150 that was traveling north on South Church Street reportedly struck the 57-year-old man as the driver moved into the left turn lane. The impact caused Machiel to land in the southbound center lane of traffic.
After being struck by the truck, a female driving a Honda CRV couldn't stop in time and ran over Machiel. As traffic began to slow, a male driver of a Nissan Altima switched lanes and ran over the pedestrian as well.
All three drivers remained on the scene and spoke to officers during the investigation. The Fatal Accident Crash Team has requested an autopsy.
