Will MTSU Purchase The Old Hospital Land?

Feb 10, 2013 at 07:46 pm by Bryan Barrett

More news on the talks between Middle Tennessee State University and Middle Tennessee Medical Center to purchase the 17.4 acre campus where the old hospital was located.

Reports indicate that an option to purchase was signed by the university several months ago. That does not mean this is a "done deal". It only shows that the state has given its representatives the green light to negotiate for an acceptable package. The property reportedly has an $11.1-million asking price, and includes the Bell Street Center (see photo below, looking across cleared field where old hospital was located, Bell Street Center in the upper section, and to its left you can see parking garage) , adjoining 400-plus space parking garage, as well as the empty field where the old hospital once stood.

It's interesting to note that another large parcel of medical property a few blocks down Highland Avenue, became vacant earlier this past weekend. The Murfreesboro Medical Clinic totally moved from its old North Highland facility to its new 193,000 square foot state-of-the-art treatment and surgi-center at 1272 Garrison Drive. In fact, today (Monday, 2/11/2013) is MMC's first day that all of its services will be in the new facility (Note: WGNS Action Line radio show will be "live" from the new Murfreesboro Medical Clinic and Surgi-Center tomorrow morning from 8:10-9:00AM).
