Riley Bockes, 3, wore only a few clothes when she arrived Jan. 5 at Select Inn with her father, who was wanted for killing her mother at their North Carolina home.

Children Triston, 12, and sisters, Cassidy, 12, and Camilla, 11, who live at the motel, generously shared their toys with Riley without hesitation.

Murfreesboro Police and deputies had just arrested Riley's father, Brent, Jan. 5 at the motel in Murfreesboro, Sheriff’s Deputy Denise Smotherman said.

Smotherman began caring for Riley immediately. Riley was later reunited with her older sister, Erikka and returned to North Carolina.

Triston, Cassidy and Camilla saw Riley didn’t have any belongings. They donated their own stuffed animals and toys to comfort Riley. Cassidy and Camilla’s mother,

Christianna and her roommate, Peggy, donated new clothes to Riley.

Motel employees Jennifer Edwards and Jen Egley furnished Riley with pajamas and blankets.

To recognize their generosity, Smotherman and her husband, Deputy Chris Smotherman, Sgt. James Holloway, Sgt. David Alford, and Deputy Jason Leathers treated them to dinner Friday night.

They spent their own money buying pizza, cookies, cupcakes and drinks for the children, parents and motel employees who helped Riley.

Community Services Unit Deputy Ben Baldwin prepared goody bags for the children. Smotherman presented challenge coins from Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh. Holloway gave the children gift cards.

Smotherman told the children and employees they were amazing for bringing Riley toys, clothes and blankets.

“You gave toys you didn’t have to,” Smotherman told Triton, Cassidy and Camilla.

Their mother’s roommate, Peggy, said the clothes they donated were new.

“I feel like that girl needed it,” Peggy said.

Cassidy and Camilla’s mother, Christianna, said she was glad she and her family could help.

“I am thankful the girl got to go back with her sister,” Christianna said.
