MTSU Planning for Big Expansion and Move to the Shelbyville Municipal Airport

MTSU is moving closer to relocating their Aerospace Program to the nearby Shelbyville Municipal Airport. Currently, the Murfreesboro Municipal Airport is landlocked within the boundaries of roughly 225-acres, while the Shelbyville airport has over 600-acres...

Governor Bill Lee recently included the funding of $57.2 million for MTSU to build a new Aerospace Campus at the Shelbyville Airport when he announced his budget recommendation on Jan. 31st. It will now be up to state legislators to approve the funding.

The Murfreesboro university, just 21-miles away from the Shelbyville Municipal Airport, has their eyes set on around 25-acres, which will also help the Bedford County economy...



When comparing the Murfreesboro airport runway length to Shelbyville's runway, Shelbyville has a 750-feet advantage...



Again, MTSU hopes to break ground on a new facility at the Shelbyville Airport by the end of the year or sometime in early 2022.
