MTSU basketball enjoys historic home season

There’s no place like home…absolutely a true statement. If you take a look at the accomplishments of the Middle Tennessee State basketball programs this season, you realize just how much it means to be on your own real estate.

Of all the division 1 programs in the country, there is only one school where both the men’s and women’s programs were perfect at home. Yes, that distinction belongs to those that hang their hats at the Murphy Center in Murfreesboro.

A much improved Blue Raider program went 15-0 at the Glass House. Coach Nick McDevitt guided a team forecast to be last in the league all the way to the championship game of the post-season CBI tournament. Going 26-11 overall with a 13-5 mark in Conference USA play, these Raiders were superior, to say the least.

The Lady Raiders also turned in an unbeaten season at Murphy. Going 16-0 at home, coach Rick Insell has once again guided his girls through a fine season. Currently still alive in the WNIT tournament, MTSU (26-7) will play in the quarterfinals at Toledo on March 28.

“We take a lot of pride in who we are”, says Insell, now in his 17th season as the Lady Raider leader. “We don’t have a team here, we have a program. Our consistency tells everyone when you come here you expect to win.”

Winning is what happened for the home team at the Murphy Center in the 2021-22 basketball season. That is a fact.
