Landfill in Rutherford County will not be useable by other counties at the end of 2022

The board has the power to order landfill operators to not accept garbage from other areas…



The regulation takes effect December 31, 2022. On that date only counties that are members of Tennessee Central Solid Waste Board will be eligible to use Middle Point Landfill in the Walter Hill community.  Those counties are Rutherford, Warren, Coffee and Cannon Counties. That means waste from Davidson County will no longer be accepted in Rutherford County on that date.

A 2019 report from the Greater Nashville Regional Council did not list any out-of-state trash coming into our area. However, there are other problems that can’t be wiped away…



Aluminum dross contains some aluminum, but consists mainly of byproducts obtained during the refinement of aluminum. The dross can become dangerous when it’s improperly stored in landfills. It’s known to be highly combustible when mixed with water.
