(MURFREESBORO)  Honoring soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice took place at 1:30 Sunday afternoon (5/29/222) at the rostrum in the Stones River Battleground Cemetery. Retired U.S. Army Colonel Jeffrey Gaylord was the keynote speaker, and shared moving memories of presenting four flags to families of fallen soldiers during his 30-years of service.  

The 9th Kentucky Infantry fired a 21-gun salute while a wreath was placed to honor the fallen heroes.

The Memorial Day tribute included participation by Friends of the Stones River National Battlefield along with the Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America and Trail Life USA. Blackman High School's ROTC was involved in the Memorial Day tribute as well as the Women's Relief Corps Auxiliary of the Grand Army of the Republic, and Stones River Chapter of the Gold Star Wives of America. In addition, the Colonel Hardy Murfree Chapter of the Children of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War participated.
