Fosterville: Train and farm tractor collide

Fosterville resident Craig Lynch survived what could have easily been his last tractor drive on Sunday. Lynch was struck by a train while operating his New Holland tractor near the railroad tracks in Rutherford County. Reports indicate Lynch was not injured.
 
Lynch, who is a farmer in Fosterville, is a long time member of the Rutherford County Planning Commission. He has been a member of the commission since 1987 and currently serves as vice chair.

The Federal Railroad Administration reports that there have been seven fatalities involving trains in Rutherford County between 2003 and 2012. There have also been at least twelve non fatal accidents between the same time period. Between '03 and 2012 throughout the entire state of Tennessee, there have been a total of 160 fatal train related accidents.
