Diagnosed with breast cancer in 1988, early retirement came unexpectedly in 1995 due to continuing health issues.  Her courage and fortitude in facing cancer would become an inspiration to many as she faced this challenge with the courage of a prize fighter. Always optimistic, she became an advocate for patients advising them on the best treatment program for their individual needs, speaking at local, state, and national symposiums.  Dianne would become a “walking miracle” as she beat the odds of cancer for more than 34 years.

Courtney Yates noted, "Dianne and I had so many connections. First as my 7th grade Science teacher. She had a wicked sense of humor and demanded (and got) respect from her students. She would paddle you and didn’t hesitate to do so. I knew she liked me when she asked me to help grade papers for her 7th graders (when I was in the 8th grade). She knew my Mom, Marcella Erickson, when Dianne married Bob Lamb. They were Realtors at the same company. I babysat for Dianne also. When I attended MTSU I joined ADPi which thrilled Dianne as it was also her sorority. Dianne was always interested in my life and career. She was a strong, smart, sarcastically funny woman who I admired.

Dennis Nipper commented, "Mrs. Lamb was my science teacher at Central Middle School. In fact, Mrs. Lamb was one of my most favorite teachers through out my education process. She will be missed.

Educator and School Board Chair Butch Campbell noted, "Dianne was a special educator for many young people at Central Middle. A person that demanded respect and good behavior from her students. She will be fondly remembered from many."

Alan Farley, the administrator of elections here in Rutherford County said, "Mrs. Lamb was a teacher every child needs at least once in their life. She was tough and she kept kids in line. She could swing a paddle with authority. That may be why I had so much respect for her. She got me a few times for being mischievous. Lol."

Local Historian Shirley Farris Jones , "She touched so many lives. And her sweet presence will be sorely missed."

Dennis Nipper stated, "Mrs. Lamb was my science teacher at Central Middle School. In fact, Mrs. Lamb was one of my most favorite teachers through out my education process. She will be missed."
