How do you determine who is a supreme talent in the world of sports? What is a way to figure out who stands taller? Hard-fought wins certainly are a testament, but when it’s made to look easy, it’s time to bust out the measuring stick.

  Nest is a brilliant three-year-old filly that has been putting on a show in 2022. This daughter of Curlin has picked up four wins in six starts this year. A second-place finish in the Kentucky Oaks and a runner-up run against the boys in the Belmont Stakes are the only blemishes. Always thought to be top-shelf, the last two performances by this Todd Pletcher trainee should have answered any questions about quality.

  The Coaching Club American Oaks on July 23 was a real jaw-dropper. Facing off against Kentucky Oaks queen Secret Oath, the stage was set. As the two talents battled into the far turn, the real lowdown on this showdown became obvious in a hurry. Pulling away with ease, Nest rolled home a widening 12 ¼ lengths ahead of the rest.

  The Alabama Stakes on August 20 was another soirée with Secret Oath. Running strong throughout, Pletcher’s prize filly again strutted her stuff in the stretch. Using a fantastic turn of foot at the eighth pole, Nest once again made it look like child’s play. Gearing down and still winning by 4 ¼ lengths, she was undoubtedly much the best.
