SMYRNA – Longtime Smyrna resident and Vice Mayor Marc Adkins announced today that he will run for re-election to the Smyrna Town Council.

“I’ve enjoyed serving the citizens of Smyrna for the past 13 years; I grew up here; and I went to high school here,” said Adkins, who is Principal Managing Broker at Parks Realty in Smyrna.

“We have a lot of projects in the works, and I would like to see them through to fruition. I also want to continue to foster 55-plus housing for senior members in our community,” he said.

Some of the Council’s current projects include:

• Rocky Fork Road that will expand to McEwen Drive in Franklin
• Completion of the Lowry Street/Downtown revitalization overlay which is bringing in new business and supporting existing businesses
• Sam Ridley Parkway widening
• Jefferson Pike widening
• New Cedar Stone Park on Morton Lane

Adkins was appointed to the Council in 2009 and elected in 2010. Since that time, Smyrna has seen the expansion of TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center, Motlow State, the building of TCAT (Tennessee College of Applied Technology), and the creation of the Capt. Jeff Kuss USMC Memorial.

“The Council helped gain donations so that no tax dollars were spent on the memorial,” he said.

Adkins currently serves on the Smyrna Municipal Planning Commission. He chaired the Historic Zoning Board and sat on the Board of Zoning Appeals, the Industrial Development Board, the Smyrna Arts Commission, and several additional study committees, including the Metropolitan Study Committee.

Inducted into the 35-Year Hall of Fame for Real Estate Agents, Adkins is a Middle Tennessee Association of Realtors Board member.

A graduate of Smyrna High School, Adkins attended Middle Tennessee State University where he studied Mass Communications.

Adkins and his wife, Connie, have been married for 41 years and have two children and six grandchildren. They have been active members of LifePoint Church in Smyrna for 25 years. Adkins has chaired the LifePoint Church Board several times.

“We love the quality of life that Smyrna has to offer,” Adkins said. “As a homegrown product, it’s a true privilege to be able to serve my hometown of Smyrna.”

Adkins enjoys playing golf, motorcycle riding, and spending time with family and friends.

The General Election is Nov. 8, with early voting from Oct. 19 through Nov. 3.
