Local ad agency wins award in Nashville

Mar 07, 2013 at 01:52 pm by Bryan Barrett

The partners of Murfreesboro advertising agency, Barker & Christol, recently accepted a Gold Addy award in the category of Self-Promotion by the American Advertising Federation Nashville. This is the young agency’s first, but partner, Steve Barker’s 16th professional advertising accolade. The crystal trophy bearing the agency’s name was presented at a banquet at War Memorial Auditorium in Nashville on March 2nd.

Barker added one Christol in August 2011 when he and Brooks Christol started Barker & Christol, LLC.  This most recently acquired crystal represents the Nashville Ad industry’s recognition of excellence in the field.

“One of the best things about the Addy Awards is the opportunity to see what competing advertisers are doing,” said Barker. “The whole event is a shot in the arm motivating us to do even better work. Its also encouraging to know that we beat out some of Nashville’s best agencies in one of the most competitive categories.”

The award-winning project was the agency’s 2012 Christmas Card mailer. The agency sent clients and friends a box filled with dozens of the agency’s headlines from their 2012 campaigns printed on thin paper streamers. A gift card attached stated that the headlines were “100% Recycled” and “Hand cut & Assembled in the United States”.

Brooks Christol explained that the company strives to be green, recycling as much as they can, including their headlines. “We have to create new ideas for every client, which generates a lot of lower-quality by-products. Rather than throwing them away, we thought we’d just recycle.”

Barker concluded that the project appealed to the judge’s environmental conscious. “We’re not an agency focused on winning awards,” he said, “but its nice to know that our advertising is slowly changing the world.”

Barker & Christol, LLC, is a Murfreesboro advertising agency. At the helm is Steve Barker, a 35-plus-year veteran advertising creator, and J. Brooks Christol, an MTSU graduate who boasts more than 15 years in the advertising, public relations and marketing industry.
