Rutherford County Property Assessor Rob Mitchell says he and several other elected members of Rutherford County Government, are opposed to a newly proposed bill before state lawmakers right now. The bill would create one new position in Rutherford County government.
According to the bill, it allows counties to adopt a centralized system for managing fiscal procedures; if adopted by a county, supersedes prior laws governing the county's fiscal procedures.
Mitchell told us the bill would create a new position in the finance office and the new employee would report to the mayor. The new position it would create is labeled as a “purchasing agent.” The new position would be paid for by local tax dollars.
Senate Bill 0085 and House Bill 0063 will be up for a vote on Tuesday, March 19th.
If the bill passes, exempt from following the orders of the "County Financial Management Systems Act of 2013" would be Davidson, Shelby, Knox and Hamilton Counties. The bill amends TCA Title 5 and Title 7.
